On March 18, Superintendent Ben Ferney provided this extended school closure update:
Only essential staff were on campus today making plans for the extended closure. Our District Leadership Team met and continues to make progress on our top three priorities: a food service, childcare for medical professionals, and extended learning opportunities. Updates for today:
• Starting tomorrow, March 19, Valley School Food Service Department will be handing out sack breakfasts and lunches in the Valley School bus loop from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. We are asking that children be present for each breakfast/lunch sack taken and for safety reasons to please keep the interactions brief when picking up the meals. Thursday’s Sack Breakfast: Cereal, juice, Craisins & milk. Thursday’s sack lunch will be: PB&J, string cheese, carrots, apple slices, Sun Chips & milk. There will be an alternate sandwich for any peanut allergy kids this day.
• We are partnering with the Valley Grange to help distribute the sack meals. On Friday, the sack breakfasts/lunches will be available for pick-up from 9:00 am to 11:00 am at the Grange in Valley as well as the Valley School bus loop. Thank you Valley Grange for your support!
• In order to make informed decisions for next steps in the food service, our bus drivers are conducting a phone survey. This information will be important for the District Leadership Team to determine how to best serve our district’s food service needs. Stay tuned for more information on this.
As new information flows into the school district on a daily basis, it is a good reminder for us that plans made yesterday or the day before can be no longer relevant. I have learned an important lesson in the past and that is with every challenge presents an opportunity. You just have to look for them.
