BEGINNING THE LEARNING: Pre-K program begins on Sept. 10 with registration due on August 23…

St. Mary’s Preschool, a private Christian preschool and pre-k program located in Chewelah, is now enrolling for the 2019-2020 school year. All children ages 3-5 years old (fully potty-trained) are eligible to attend. The school year begins Tuesday, Sept. 10, 2019; registration is due by Friday, August 23.

Preschool classes are every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning from 8:30-11:30 a.m. September 2019 through May 2020. Pick up a copy of the registration packet at the St. Mary of the Rosary parish office at 502 E Main Avenue in Chewelah or call the office at 935-8028.

St. Mary’s Preschool helps its young students develop social skills as well as fine-motor skills. Students establish routines and learn the expectations of a classroom while having fun as they are encouraged to play and be creative.

“Our daughter really enjoyed preschool and learned so much this past year,” Katie Hutchings said. “She attended for two years and learned how to play well with others, letters, writing and thoroughly enjoyed her teacher.”

Mrs. Doreen Kenney, the lead teacher, is a Washington State Certified K-8 teacher and has a strong focus on Kindergarten readiness. This will be Mrs. Kenney’s fourth year as lead teacher at St. Mary’s Preschool.

The school curriculum includes learning how to write and sound out letters and numbers, hands-on crafts and directed play time, coordinated recess activities, show-and-tell, class field trips, science projects and even a Christmas pageant. Mrs. Kenney also incorporates “Zoophonics,” which is the curriculum used at Gess Elementary, to begin reading.

“My child thrived in this classroom as he learned his alphabet, numbers and how to play better with other kids,” said parent Heather Horrocks. “He also benefited from the structure of classroom management in addition to the free play and recess. His year of preschool will help him as he enters kindergarten.”

At St. Mary’s, parents and other volunteers are encouraged to attend daily classes and field trips. Every volunteer is required to attend an annual training and have a background check.

It is a ministry of St. Mary of the Rosary Parish to offer a quality Christian-based educational program to our community. You do not have to be a member of the parish to attend St. Mary’s Preschool. Monthly tuition is due on the first day of class each month.
