SOFTBALL: Cougars blast Riverside 20-0

(Staff Reports)

Two Cougars homer, two other get extra base hits in big win…

The game was over in four innings, and Chewelah once again found itself in the win column. The Cougars pounded out 15 hits on the road in a shortened game and defeated NEA League foe Riverside 20-0 on Thursday evening.

Riverside fell to 1-4 on the year, mustering just three hits against all-state pitcher Jaelynn Skok. Skok helped her cause at the plate, tripling and homering in the victory and finishing with 4 RBI.

Chewelah led 5-0 after one inning and then added five more runs in the next two frames. The Cougars’ ten-run rally in the fourth and Riverside’s inability to respond in the end of the frame ended the contest.

Krislyn Koler also doubled and homered in the game, while Tylee Frizzell notched three hits and a double. Zandra Nelson and Bailey Smith also had two hits in the game.

Catcher Haley Kuk swatted a triple.

It was the third time this season Chewelah has scored 20+ runs, and the fifth time this year a game has ended early because of the mercy rule.
