(BY CHEWELAH CHIEF OF POLICE MARK BURROWS)
This Father’s Day remember to get your dad something just about as nice as the gift you got for your mom on Mother’s Day. If your dad isn’t around or he’s passed on, consider doing something nice for someone else’s dad or father figure, or the pastor who is always there when you call for advice.
Last week Chewelah Officers responded to about 43 calls for service. One call was a report of a cat that had experienced it’s 10th fatal incident near a business. Only lab results will confirm if it was one of the ‘burg alarm’ cats from last week. Seriously though, it was thoughtful of the caller to report it. Although this isn’t a police department function I’d guess people could take a deceased cat or dog to a veterinarian who could scan for a chip and ID an owner who might want to bury the animal. Moving on…an area check; citizen assist; a couple youngsters fighting in an alley; and within moments a collision/argument in a parking lot a few feet away. A dog complaint; a citizen reported hearing a domestic argument; a fraud report; an incomplete 911 call; harassment; two misc. calls; and two reports of harassment.
Two suspicious persons were contacted; a distressed person was put in contact with MHP; an officer investigated a suspicious vehicle; theft; four traffic situations; and officers made 23 traffic stops to remind motorists to follow the rules of the road & stay safe. As summer traffic picks up it’s even more important to pay attention to traffic instead of your phone
