Keep The Library Available To Everyone

Dear Editor,

In an Indian parable retold by John Steinbeck in The Pearl an indigent Indian man, Keno, finds the “pearl of the world.” Keno hopes to sell the pearl so he will have enough money to pay someone teach his young son to READ! Keno knew that knowing the written word or reading was the key to unlocking his people’s bondage.

On a less dramatic scale the same concept is still true. Our young people must read and have access to everything written. They must know how to use and have access to the cyber world. Unfortunately not every household in our community can stock their own library or buy their own computer.

Bottom line-keep our library open and available to everyone.
