First Thursday kicks off Chewelah’s Winterfest show…

The First Thursday Art Walk has taken hold in Chewelah and has become a staple every month in Stevens County’s fastest growing town.

Another Chewelah first is occurring as the first juried art show open to the public in our town, Chewelah Winterfest for the Arts, is taking place beginning on March 5 and running until April 30.

Organizer Tim Nielsen has received over 90 submissions and 61 pieces were juried from 30 artists from the area and out of it.

The show was set up at Trails End Gallery and judges Dave Anderson and Jen Fuller juried the event.

Anderson is currently Professor of Art at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City. Fuller is a Portland-based site-specific installation artist whose work utilizes glass, steel, digital media and found objects.

There will also be a People’s Choice Award as voting will take place between March 4 and April 24.

Media at this show can include painting, watercolor, drawings, photography, sculpture, printmaking, textile and ceramics

On Wednesday, March 4, the awards were given out at Quartzite Brewing Company and members of the community can get their first look at the submissions tonight, March 5 from 5:30-8 p.m. at Trails End Gallery.
