Chewelah School District seeking community input for superintendent search

(PRESS RELEASE/Chewelah School District)

Chewelah School District’s Board of Directors seeks community input on the qualities/qualifications of a new superintendent to replace Rich McFarland who has served the district as superintendent since July 2018 and resigned effective June 30, 2021 to relocate near family in Oregon. The board englists the input of students, staff, parents, community members in prioritizing the qualities desired in superintendent leadership per a survey posted to the district website and/or a “Town Hall” type zoom meeting.

The two questions asked on the website survey are: 1) What are your top three priorities for the new Chewelah School District superintendent? 2) What would you like that School Board to consider when hiring a new superintendent? To provide your input please answer the questions posted on the district website www.chewelah. k12.wa.us under the News tab.

A community input zoom meeting on Monday, March 15, 6:30-7:15 p.m., provides another opportunity for input. To participate in this meeting please register for a zoom link by calling 685-6800 x1002. Earlier this year the board undertook a survey to hear the community’s vision for the future of Chewelah schools. Results of that survey are also posted on the district website www.chewelah.k12. wa.us under News tab. Conducting their own search process, the board expanded the outreach to potential applicants across the state/nation and enlisted university providers with superintendent/leadership programs along with school administrator organizations and educational service districts in getting the word out that Chewelah is a great place to live, work and educate the city’s children.
