Chewelah’s girls had their first golf outing of the season on Tuesday, April 9, up in Colville with Inchelium hosting a nine-hole match to start the league season.
Avery Arnold finished second overall on the leader board with a score of 45. Jayci Earl shot 54, Tessa DeTillion had a 58, Brooklyn Bender 65 and Kailee Parrott 71.
“The course had early season conditions and I handled those conditions,” Arnold said. “I was only in the water once and I managed to miss all of the flooded fairway areas.
Arnold added she has shot a 43 before at Deer Park, but it felt really good to shoot a 45 in early season conditions.
The Lady Cougars won the match with a team score of 293 against the 11 teams competing.
“I thought the girls played well for their first match,” said Coach Brian Harting. “Our home course finally opened last Saturday, so we played our first match after only being able to hit on the driving range for a couple of days after spring vacation. Monday was our first day of getting to go out on the course and practice. We really need time on the course to work on our putting and short game around the greens.”
Chewelah will have their annual invitational tournament on Friday.
