The Melody Riders Saddle Club celebrated the accomplishments of riders who competed in the 2012 season at an awards banquet held at Valley School on Jan. 13. Each one of the 83 competitors that completed either the Barrel Racing Series, the Western Game Series or the Horse Show series received an award to honor them for their 2012 accomplishments with their horses.
The TGIF (Thank God It’s Friday) Barrel Racing Series, under the direction of Bea Pillen had a very successful season.
Darci Zollman, of Chewelah, was awarded a saddle as the 1D division Champion by accumulating the fastest time average of the year in the barrel racing series. Second Place in the 1D division was captured by Debbie Bereth, with third place going to Hailey Wainwright, followed by Stephanie George in fourth place.
The 2D division saddle was earned by Stephanie Brown of Deer Park with Heidi Brown placing second, Charlene Ulrich third and Taylor Smith fourth.
The 3D division was captured by Kristi Knapp. Second place went to Molly Frye, third to Debby Petty and fourth place Jessica Johnson.
Chris Tellesen took home the saddle in the 4D division with Yvette Henderson running in second place, Dana Christensen third and Carrie Hawkins fourth.
The TGIF Youth winners were Hailey Wainwright first in the 1D, Carly Oman first in the 2D and Jessica Johnson first in the 4D.
Pole Bending winners in the TGIF were Stephanie George 1D Champion, Heidi Brown first in the 3D and Tami Seitters first in the 4D.
The TGIF PeeWee riders, Samantha Tellessen, Hailey Stoner and Lexi Rogers were also honored with awards.
The Western Games Division awarded saddles to the riders who accumulated the most points during the 2012 in three age divisions, 18 and Over, 11-17 years of age and 10 and under. The following is a list of the top five riders in each age division:
18 & Over: Stephanie George – Champion, Reserve Champion – Martha Abbott, 3rd Place – Oly Burnett, 4th Place – Darci Zollman and 5th Place Tami Seitters.
11-17: Carly Oman, Champion, Shane Kaleikini, Reserve Champion, Samantha Cotter – 3rd Place, Joslyn Hallauer – 4th Place and Emily Sulgrove – 5th place.
10 & Under: Kailey Ackley – Champion, Andrea Hallauer – Reserve Champion, Colton Cotter – 3th Place, Chris Sulgrove – 4th Place and Charlee Zollman in 5th place.
The Western Game Lead Line riders who completed the series were Kyndra Hallauer, Shayna Howard, Hanna Ogle and Haley Ogle.

A Horse Show Series, under the direction of Debbie Harbin, was offered for the first time in 2012. The 2012 Walk Trot Championship was earned by Matt Harbin. Star Perry was honored as the Walk Trot Champion for all ages with Alicia Hall, the Reserve Champion. In the 13 & under age group, Amanda Williams captured the Championship with Sadie Beardall the Reserve High Point. Makayla Nez was honored as the Champion on the Horse Show 14-18 age group.
The Melody Riders are anticipating an exciting 2013 season of horse related events. It is our goal to provide a venue that will meet the needs of all riders, no matter what their discipline or skill level. We welcome all riders.
The TGIF barrel series will be held on the following Friday evenings with “time onlys” beginning at 5:30 p.m. and barrel racing competition beginning at 7 p.m.: May 24, June 14 and 28, July 12 and 26, and July 9.
The Western Game Series will be held on the following Saturdays, starting at 10 a.m.: May 25, June 15 and 29, July 13 and 27, and Aug. 8.
The Horse Show Series will be held on the following Sundays, starting at 8 a.m.: May 26, June 16 and 30, July 14 and 28, and Aug. 11.
The MRSC is also planning a variety of clinics. A Kelli Kaminiski (World Champion Barrel Racer) barrel racing clinic, organized by Allison Burlington, will be held at the MRSC arena, located one mile south of Chewelah on Highway 395 on Aug. 3-4. Information about the clinic is posted on the Melody Riders’ Facebook page. Also in the planning stages are reining clinics conducted by Sue Muir who studied under Pat Wyse, and a Horsemanship/Barrel Racing clinic to be presented by two time NFR qualifier Kelli Curran.
