(STAFF REPORTS/Chewelah Independent)
Sweat and Rollis sit plenty of NWC batters down…
The Cougars are hoping for a league crown and they’re certainly getting some pitching gems to put in that crown. Chewelah traveled to NW Christian on Friday with two of their aces each putting in head-turning performances and extending their winning streak to seven.
The Cougars won by scores of 2-0 and 5-3 against a NWC team that had good pitchers themselves.
In the first game, young Andrew Sweat took the mound to strike out 10 NW Christian batters to help Chewelah to a 2-0 victory. Northwest Christian actually outhit Chewelah 8-5, but the Cougars scored two runs in the top of the eighth for the victory.
Jake Jeanneret picked up the save, pitching 1 and 2/3 innings and striking out three.
Zak Kubik drove in one run while Carl Oman had two hits in the game for Chewelah. Gunner Kuehl pitched a great game for NWC, striking out 14.
In the second game, Justin Rollis put in another great pitching performance for the Cougars, going 6.2 innings and striking out nine en route to a 5-3 victory to pull off the doubleheader sweep.. Rollis threw strikes, 20 first pitch strikes to be exact and was relieved by Sam Triplett who picked up the save.
Triplett had two hits at the plate, while Jake Jeanneret had two hits and one RBI. Cole Davis and Jake George also drove in runs.
Next Wednesday, Chewelah will play at Davenport at 2 and 4 p.m. in doubleheader action.
