Anna Marie Kenney 1968-2018
Anna Marie Kenney, a longtime resident of Chewelah, WA passed away on December 10, 2018 due to injuries received from an automobile accident. Anna was born on June 2, 1968 in Chewelah, WA, the daughter of James Bernard and Mabel Alma (Seabrandt) Playfair.
She spent a significant portion of her childhood traveling as the family followed her father’s Army career. They resided in communities in Oklahoma, Virgina and Alaska while always returning to Chewelah.
Anna Marie graduated in 1987 from Jenkins High School in Chewelah and then continued her education at the Spokane Community College.
She completed her education as a surgical technician and began working in Missoula, MT. She soon returned to Chewelah to assist in the care of a family member. On July 4, 1990, Anna Marie married Eugene “Curtis” Kenney in Valley, WA. They began a family and within 32 months gave welcome to their third child. Anna Marie worked in the home and tended to the needs of her family. She would later work part time at Kimball’s Kitchen in Valley, WA. In 1993, Anna Marie returned to her work as a surgical technician part time at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Chewelah. In 1996, she transferred to Mt. Carmel Hospital in Colville. Anna returned to school with the desire to earn her degree as a registered nurse. Personal illness required she leave school and return home. The birth announcement of her first grandchild soon filled her world and with open arms and heart she welcomed the birth of her granddaughter, Joy Howell. Joy inspired happiness in grandma’s heart with every thought.
Anna Marie was a gifted crafter and created many keepsakes and crocheted afghans for her family. She enjoyed her many years watching her children grow and supporting them throughout their varied functions, events and activities. Anna Marie offered her love through example and her own actions.
Anna Marie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James Playfair.
She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Curtis Kenney of Chewelah, WA; three children, Mary Jo Kenney of Chicago, IL; Catherine Howell (Josh) of Spokane, WA; C.J. Kenney (Rachel) of Diamond Lake, WA; sister, Deborah Playfair of Chewelah, WA; granddaughter, Joy Howell and a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial service for Mrs. Anna Marie Kenney will begin at 1 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the New Life Christian Church in Addy, WA. Pastor Robert McDowell will officiate. Memorial contributions may be given to the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
