The Pocket Flag Project was created to send pocket-sized flags to veterans overseas that are not allowed to display them. However, the Chewelah American Legion Auxiliary has decided to hand them out to local veterans as well.
They kicked off the project by delivering the flags, which the auxiliary folded and packaged themselves, to veterans at the Providence St. Joseph’s Long Term Care Unit on Nov. 12, the day after Veterans Day. The auxiliary also plans on putting them in the Christmas gift bags they give to widowed and single veterans each year.
“I hope it’s a good pick me up for those men and women,” said Legion Auxiliary president Elaine Roach said.
