The Valley School Drama Club invites the community to see students show heart, brains and courage at their upcoming production of the “Magical Land of Oz”. A musical based on the early 1900’s children’s novel “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” written by L. Frank Baum, the story was made into an American fantasy adventure film starring Judy Garland in 1939. By 1956 it became an annual tradition to watch, making it one of the most famous films ever made.
“We have taken both versions of the book and the movie and created a new approach,” said Theresa Carr, Director. “The songs are a bit different and we have added a few twists and turns that we think you will enjoy.”
The production’s script is by Tim Kelly, with music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur, and produced by special arrangements with Pioneer Drama Service, Inc. This season’s leading cast members are: Andrea Franks (Dorothy), Nova Kelly (Toto), Megan Salapka (Auntie Em), Makayla Rindlisbacher (Glinda the Good), Chloe Dulaney (Wicked Witch of the West), Kaylee Paul (Winged Monkey), Madi Rose (Winged Monkey), Alyssa Paladin (Winged Monkey), Rachael and Emma Larsen (Guardians of the Gate), Shelton Travis (Scarecrow), Brent Fiola (Tin Woodsman), Emma Selle (Cowardly Lion), Gillian Desmarais (OZ). A full complement of 20 munchkins and OZ inhabitants will also populate the stage.
Performances are scheduled for March 6th, 7th and 8th in the Valley School multipurpose room at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 adults, $2 students and children five and under are free.
