In the rough and tumble NE 2B league, Northwest Christian played Davenport tight but lost to the Gorillas 23-13 to fall to 0-2 on the year. Meanwhile Colfax improved their record to 2-1 with a 46-6 victory over Reardan on Friday night.
COLFAX 46, REARDAN 6
Heading into the year, Colfax was the team to watch on the east side of the state in the 2B ranks. After a season-opening loss to Liberty, they have posted two blowout wins. On Friday, they took a 38-0 halftime lead over Reardan and turned it into a 46-6 victory thanks to 148 rushing yards and three touchdowns by Jacob Brown.
But Colfax isn’t a one-trick pony show either, Mason Gilchrest added touchdown runs of eight and 16 yards.
Browns longest run of the night was 48 yards, showcasing the Bulldogs’ big play ability. The Chewelah Cougars will be facing Colfax next Friday in an Eastern Washington slugfest.
DAVENPORT 23, NORTHWEST CHRISTIAN 13
Aaron House notched an opening drive 23-yard touchdown run for Northwest Christian, but Davenport dominated the middle quarters scoring wise and came out with a 23-13 victory.
Davenport’s Brenick Soliday scored on a touchdown run from 11 yards out, then quarterback Evan Gunning scored on a keeper for a 12-7 halftime lead. The Gorillas would then get a two yard run from Ethan Douse in the third quarter. Douse would finish with 155 rushing yards on 23 touches.
Soliday hit a 26-yard field goad and Northwest Christian would book end the scoring with a 55-yard fumble recovery for a touchdown.
