Deer Park is two weeks into the second and hasn’t given up a score, as the state’s No. 5-ranked 1A squad defeated Medical Lake 35-0 last night. But the game to watch was the Colville-Freeman bout which finished with the Indians notching a 36-35 victory over the Scotties. Lakeside also trounced Newport 43-14 as the Grizzlies fell to 0-2 on the year.

Colville’s Sam Anderson continued to be elite as he threw for four touchdowns in a back-and-fourth affair against Freeman. Isaiah Wilson punched the ball across the goaline with six minutes left to give Colville the go-ahead touchdown for the 36-35 victory.

The Scotties got a 63-yard touchdown run, two passing touchdowns and an interception returned for a score from sophomore Boen Phelps.

All of Anderson’s passes were big plays for Colville, including a 52-yard pass, a 27-yard pass, a 21-yard pass and a 28-yard strike. So far this year, Anderson has seven passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns.

Colville will face Lakeside next week, which is coming off a big win over Newport.

The immovable object Deer Park steamrolled their way to a 35-0 victory getting four touchdowns from Chaz Bird. Medical Lake dropped to 0-2 on the year. Cumulatively, Deer Park has outscored opponents 51-0 in two games and they will play winless Newport next week.

Guys, Lakeside can pass.

Quarterback Kole Hunsaker passed for 357 yards and three touchdowns as the Eagles opened the season with a 43-14 victory in NE 1A play. Newport fell to 0-2 on the year.

Lakeside led 34-7 at halftime and never looked back.

The Eagles also got an 80-yard touchdown catch of Logan Allen. Allen used his feet rushing for a 70-yard and one-yard touchdown as well.

This sets the stage for a big game with Lakeside next week.
