A structure fire in the 2300 block of Stingy Lane last week was caused by a nearby fire abatement. The wind shifted and the purposely set fire burning up additional wildfire fuel on a property sent embers into a structure that housed several pieces of farming equipment.
Local firefighters responded by 1:59 p.m. last Tuesday, but the fire had already fully engulfed the 15×25-foot structure and equipment. A total of 13 local firefighters from both Fire District 4 and the Chewelah Fire Department responded to the blaze.
Firefighters sprayed down the nearby barn to help save that from also catching fire.
