Wilma Schanzenbach 1925-2017
Wilma J. Schanzenbach, age 92, a longtime resident of Chewelah, WA passed away on July 1, 2017 in Spokane, WA. Wilma was born on June 27, 1925 in Yakima, WA the daughter of William and Elizabeth Merritt.
She was raised in the small town of Harrah, WA in the Yakima Valley. Wilma attended high school in Wapato, WA where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Wilton Leo Schanzenbach. Together they farmed in the Yakima Valley for many years. In 1967, following Wilton’s graduation from Mortuary College, the family moved to Chewelah, WA where Wilma helped Wilton in the funeral business and worked as an administrative secretary at St. Joseph’s Hospital for many years.
Wilma will be remembered for her kindness, for her sense of humor and for her loving nature that endeared her to so many people. She will be greatly missed by all, especially by her family who loved her so very much.
Wilma was a member of PEO, Woman’s Federation, the United Church of Christ and many other community organization throughout the years.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Wilton on Feb. 24, 2001.
She is survived by her sons; Dennis Schanzenbach and his wife, Gloria of Chewelah, WA, Bill Schanzenbach and his wife, Lorraine of Chewelah, WA; daughters, Carla Carter of Spokane, WA, Judy Bronk and her husband, Paul of Springdale, WA; grandchildren, Evan Schanzenbach of Spokane, WA, Brooke Rapet and her husband, Paul of Dundee, OR, Ann Blodget of Winthrop, WA and Mike Peterson of Puyallup, WA; great grandchildren, Hailey and Sophie Rapet and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
The funeral service for Mrs. Wilma J. Schanzenbach will begin at 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2017 at the Danekas Funeral Chapel in Chewelah, WA. A private family graveside and vault interment will follow at the Chewelah Memorial Park Cemetery, Chewelah, WA. Memorial contributions may be given to the Hospice of Spokane.
