Firefighters continue to line fire, smoke may be seen coming from interior of fire…
The command team announced that the Williams Flats Fire on the Colville Indian Reservation was 81 percent contained after beginning way back on August 2 and growing to 45,359 acres. Temperatures today look to be unseasonably cool, with heads reaching the low 80s or high 70s. Firefighters are working to secure lines around the fire. Burnback operations are planned today on the northeastern section of the fire – the lone un-lined section of the fire.
Since it has been several days since dowsing rains, firefighters expected unburned fuels and islands to dry out and may start burning again within the interior of the fire. They expect smoke to be visible from the surrounding areas. The public is asked to call 509-634-7341 for any smoke sightings that may cause concerns.
There are currently 541 firefighters on the blaze, including 16 hand crews and 20 engines.
