Regarding the sports section of The Independent March 22. The various coaches had some nice things to say about their kids. That is except the track coach who basically did nothing but whine about the condition of the track.
The community said ‘no’ to a nearly million dollar renovation. If $5 million was to be spent out there it would still get wet when it rained and covered with snow when it snows. It does rain and snow in Stevens County in the spring. A solution would be to find a benefactor who would build us a domed stadium but I rather doubt that is going to happen. I think that the ditch caused by water runoff could easily be repaired with half a pickup load of material.
Many time the golf team has not been on their home course until they have had matches because of the snow and wet and the only real practice they had was when they were playing a match somewhere else.
Tennis cannot either play or practice when it is raining nor can baseball or softball
According to the Spokesman Review the track kids had a respectable showing at Colville.
It seems to me that a very well-educated and well-paid coach could find a dry place somewhere for the kids to practice.
