(STAFF REPORTS/Chewelah Independent)
Washington has had 2,032 Bigfoot sightings…
Apparently Washington is the right place for Bigfoot hunters. The mythical creature has been seen often and all over the state, including around Chewelah. The Travel Channel ranked Washington as the No. 1 state for Bigfoot sightings. We’re not sure if that’s because Bigfoot enjoys the temperate climate, the rainy season, the deer and elk or perhaps the hot summers in Eastern Washington.
The Bigfoot Field Researchers Organization, which we’re sure is something like NASA, gathered the sighting information and the Travel Channel compiled a list. Washington has seen 2,032 sightings which is the world’s most active region of Sasquatch activity. There are even areas that are popular for Bigfoot hunters including the Blue Mountains, Okanogan County and Ape Canyon.
Chewelah even hosts a Bigfoot gathering where people attending say they have seen Bigfoot as well.
There has been 23,000 sightings in the US, and the No. 2 state on the list is California. The Golden State has seen 1,697 reported sightings. Oregon is also in the top 10.
Bigfoot or Sasquatch are mysterious hairy, upright-walking, ape-like creatures that live in wooded areas and leave large footprints. The Pacific Northwest has been an epicenter of the Bigfoot phenomenon for many years.
