Republican representatives Matt Shea, David Taylor and Bob McCaslin have proposed a bill that would allow fans to bring guns into sports stadiums in the state of Washington, including Seattle’s CenturyLink Field and Safeco Field.
The proposed law would prevent public stadiums, and the private organizations such as the NFL or the Major League Baseball from banning people who have a valid concealed pistol license from entering the stadium with a firearm.
NFL vice president of communications Brian McCarthy said that the league hadn’t seen the proposed legislation but that the NFL has a policy against carrying a weapon into NFL stadiums.
The proposal comes as arrests at NFL games have trended upward slightly since 2011.
