Here are upcoming events for Oct. 13-26, 2016.
OCT. 13: CHRIS TRAPPER CONCERT
Thursday, October 13, marks the return of Boston-based singer/songwriter Chris Trapper.
Perhaps best known for his song This Time, from the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for the film August Rush, Chris has had numerous songs featured in film and television over the years. His warmth, humor, and gift for connecting with his audience, combined with the poetry and freshness of his songwriting make this a show that is not to be missed. The show starts at 8 p.m. Doors open at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets are $15 and are available at Valley Drug in Chewelah and House of Music in Colville.
OCT. 15: FIRE DEPT. OPEN HOUSE
The Chewelah Volunteer Fire Department will hold an Open House on Saturday, Oct. 15, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Everyone is invited to join the firefighters for a fun and educational open house that will demonstrate how the fire department works.With lots of things for kids to enjoy, too.
Activities will include station and engine tours, photo opportunities, free goody bags (for the first 50 kids), free balloons, and a chance to try on gear and use the water hose.
Demonstrations and safety presentations start at noon and will include a sample fire drill.
City of Chewelah residents are also eligible for free smoke detectors in support of the NFPA Fire Prevention Campaign.
OCT. 15: FRIENDS OF THE LIBRARY BOOK SALE
Friends of the Chewelah Public Library are hosting a Book Sale fundraiser at the Chewelah Senior Center on Saturday, Oct. 15, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Books for sale include novels, historical, education, children, Christmas, and much more.
OCT. 15: BURGERS, BRATS AND BEER
Join the Chewelah Valley Lions Club and Quartzite Brewing Company for Burgers, Brats and Beer on Saturday, Oct. 15 from 4-8 p.m. This fundraiser will be a fun Oktoberfest event to raise money for services in our community and to sample Quartzite Brewery’s fine selection of beer. Bring friends, family, and check it out.
Oct. 20: FULL GOSPEL MEETING
The Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship in America will hold its’ Monthly Meeting on Thursday, October 20 starting at 6:30 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Stevens County Ambulance and Training Center located at 425 N Hwy in Colville (by the north traffic circle next to Ronnie D’s).
The program will include networking and fellowship plus Keynote Speaker, Jim Buck. Some forty years ago, Jim’s life was radically changed from being a self-centered alcoholic to a man of passion serving the Lord after a friend shared Jesus Christ with him. Moving from Southern Oregon to Marble, Jim and his wife, Ronnie, started a construction business that served both residential and commercial customers throughout Stevens County.
Both men and women are invited to attend and the meetings are free and open to the public. They do not need to be business owners to attend. Full Gospel is a Christian organization providing spiritual fellowship in a non-church setting. For more information, contact Stewart Kent at 509-684-6144.
OCT. 21-22: AUTUMN SHOWCASE
On Oct. 21 and Oct. 22, the Aaron Huff Memorial Cultural Center will be holding its annual Autumn Showcase.
Following a similar format to last year’s Grand Opening, both evenings will begin at 6 p.m. with an Artists’ Reception, featuring the nature photography of Jim Carvalho and the otherworldly tactile art of Phyllis Mueller.
Traci Manley, tattoo artist extraordinaire will also be on hand with samples of her work. Traci spent ten years as a tattoo artist in Portland before moving to the Chewelah area, and currently works in Spokane but will be bringing her talents to Chewelah this fall.
The Artists’ Reception is your chance to wander the building, enjoy fabulous art, and talk to the artists.
Following the reception will be a performance showcase directed by Ann Marie Benedict and featuring a wide range of performing artists, including Northern Ballet and Performing Arts, students of Jessica Reed (voice and piano), Tanya Finley (Tribal Fusion Belly Dance), the Haran Irish Dancers, National Clogging Champion Hannah Johnson, Rachael Larsen (violin, Friday only), Mo Oliver (violin, Saturday only), and Spokane’s Vytal Movement Dance Company (Saturday only). Tickets for this event are available at Valley Drug for $10 and include both the reception and the performance. Space is limited.
OCT. 22: SENIOR CENTER OPEN HOUSE
There will be celebration at the Chewelah Senior Center on October 22, 2016 from 1-3 p.m.
People will be recognized for their part in the recent building renovations. Guest speakers are Dorothy Knauss (Mayor of Chewelah) and Geno Ludwig. They will be sharing the history of Chewelah; the Mayor’s mother put on potlucks in the original building.
The board of directors would love the community as well as nearby towns to come and celebrate with us. There will be a time to view historical pictures and enjoy some refreshments.
Oct. 26: CHEWELAH BLOOD DRIVE
A Chewelah Community Blood Drive is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 26 inside the Chewelah Civic Center from 12-5 p.m.
