Here are the upcoming events for Nov. 2-10, 2016.
Nov. 2-4: The Velveteen Rabbit
The Valley School Drama Club is pleased to present The Story of Velveteen Rabbit. This fun and heartwarming musical creatively captures the magic of the original story about a stuffed animal made real by a child’s love. Come experience this childhood favorite on Wednesday, Nov. 2, Thursday, Nov. 3 and Friday, Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the Valley School Multi-Purpose Room. $5 admission at the door.
Nov. 3: Title Parent Info Night
Chewelah School District will sponsor a Title Parent Information Night on the evening of Thursday, November 3, 2016 from 5:30-7 p.m. The event will be held at Gess Elementary, but parents from both Gess and Jenkins Junior/ Senior High School are encouraged to attend. Child care will be provided.
School staff will explain the differences between Schoolwide and Targeted Assistance Title programs, and present the District and School-level Parent Involvement Plans and Parent-Teacher-Student Compact. Information about reading strategies and homework assistance will be shared, and a free dinner will be provided. Participants will have a chance to win one of several “Homework Helper” packages.

Nov. 5: Scouts Food Drive
On Saturday, Nov. 5, 2016, the boys of Chewelah Boy Scout Troop 998, with help from Girl Scout Troops 5006 and 2236, will be collecting food to help the hungry in our community. All food collected will be brought to the Chewelah Food Bank.
Between 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., scouts will go from house-to-house to pick up donations. Alternately, donations may be brought to the Scout Cabin in Chewelah City Park during the same time frame.
Items needed include: canned meats/fish, fruit juice, soups, baby formula, Jello, pudding mix, pasta, sauces, canned fruit, canned vegetables, baby cereal, powdered milk, peanut butter, hot or cold cereal. No outdated or opened items, please.
This food collection is part of Scouting For Food, an effort by Packs and Troops around our nation to fight hunger.
Troop 998 is chartered to The Chewelah Kiwanis. In keeping with the values of Scouting, Boy and Girl Scouts devote themselves to community service. Along with year round activities of crafts, outings, games and projects. All Scouts seek to be of service to others.

Nov. 7: Library Conference Call
The Libraries of Stevens County Board of Trustees will hold a conference call work session on Monday, November 7 at 9 a.m. Arrangements to provide reasonable accommodations or an interpreter will be made upon receiving 48 hours advance notice. Nov. 9: Mary Walker Blood Drive
There will be a Blood Drive at Mary Walker High School in Springdale on Wednesday, Nov. 9 from 11 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.
Inland Northwest Blood Center along with the Mary Walker High School Community Blood Drive Volunteers led by Wendi Lind will be coordinating the blood drive.
INBC needs an average of 200 blood donors every day to meet the needs of more than 35 hospitals in the Inland Northwest. A single donation can save the lives of up to three people.
Nov. 10: UCC Free Community Dinner
The membership of the United Church of Christ (UCC) wants to invite the community to share in a delightful fun dinner, to gather, to get to know each other, and renew old friendships. The “Free Dinner” is on Thursday, November 10, 2016 from 5-7 p.m.
This dinner has been a November event for the community that was started over 20 years ago. This year we will be having Chili, corn bread, vegetarian soup, dessert, and coffee, tea, and apple cider. Come and bring your appetite.
UCC is located on the corner of Park Ave. (Highway 395) and Webster, and has parking in the back and on side streets.
Nov. 10: Fire Dist. 12 Board Meeting
The Board of Commissioners of Stevens County Fire Protection District No. 12 wishes to announce that the next meeting of the Board will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, November 10, 2016 at the Rice Fire Station located at 1985 Orin Rice Road to discuss and finalize the budget for the year 2017.
District No. 12 covers the communities of Rice, Daisy and Gifford. This is an open meeting and input from residents of District No. 12 would be appreciated.
