A message from Cathy:
In the coming weeks, I will be hosting several “Conversation with Cathy” town hall style events in Kettle Falls, Republic, and Spokane. One of the best parts about being home in Eastern Washington is getting to travel the Inland Northwest and meet with you. I look forward to hearing your ideas and sharing with you some details about what I’ve been working on to expand opportunities for everyone in Eastern Washington, including creating jobs, providing the 21st Century care that our veterans deserve and restoring the people’s voice in our representative government.
Please come share your thoughts with me at one of the upcoming events listed below. I encourage you to follow along on Twitter and Facebook for more information about my schedule of events throughout this month in Eastern Washington.
AUG. 12 – FREE PRESSURE CANNER TESTING
Only two pressure canner testing sessions are left. Sessions are at the WSU Extension office at 986 S. Main, Colville from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Sessions will be Friday, August 12 and Wednesday, Sept. 7.
Dial gauge pressure canners should be tested yearly before you start to can. Accurate pressure is important to ensure you are reaching adequate internal temperatures. At sea level a canner at a gauge pressure of 10.5 lbs provides an internal temperature of 240° F. Gauges that read high can result in under processing which may result in unsafe food. For more information visit www.stevens.wsu.edu or call our office at 509-684-2588.

AUG. 14 – FORE JOSH GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Charity Chicks of Chewelah are having a “Fore Josh” Golf Tournament to raise funds to help him with Level 2 PGA certification fees and travel expenses to Florida for him to take his PGA certification test. Thanks to the successful tournament last year, Josh was able to complete his level 1 courses. This is a 9-hole 4-person net scramble but no handicap is required to play. There will be awards for longest drive, closest to pin and the first three low net teams. It will be held Sunday, Aug 14 at 1 p.m. at the Chewelah Golf and Country Club – hole course. There will also be a putting contest this year, which can be done separately from the scramble and anyone can participate. After the tournament there is a silent auction, with many exciting offerings. More donations would be appreciated for the auction. The entry fee for the tournament is $20 per person plus green/cart fees for nonmembers. Entry forms available at the pro shop and enrollment open until the field of 129 is full.
