Transitional kindergarten class to open at Valley School District

(PRESS RELEASE/Valley School District)

Valley School District is opening a Transitional Kindergarten class for early learners beginning in the fall for the 2021-22 school year. Transitional Kindergarten (TK) is a free, full-day early entrance program for young children who will be four (4) years old by September 1 st and demonstrate they would benefit from a year of quality learning in order to be successful in traditional kindergarten. The class will be located in Valley Early Learning Center under the direction of Candace Harris, who began planning the program well over a year ago prior to the pandemic emergency.

As a publicly funded school program, Transitional Kindergarten follows the current kindergarten model, led by a certificated teacher offering a variety of hands-on learning experiences to help students develop initial social/emotional, communication, motor and academic skills.

Placement in the program will be determined in collaboration with parents to ensure the best fit for the child and a solid foundation for the child’s K-12 educational journey.

The TK class in Valley will be limited to 16 students. Interested parents can find more detailed information about TK on the OSPI website at www.k12.wa.us (search Transitional Kindergarten). VELC Director Harris encourages parents to contact her at (509) 937-2638 to begin the enrollment process before May 31.
