Event wins at Newport give Chewelah momentum going into postseason…
Maggie Cobb concluded her senior league season with three victories at Newport last week.
She won the 100-meter high hurdles, the long jump, and the triple jump for the Cougar girls on Wednesday as a tune-up for this week’s District 7 Championships at Riverside.
Cobb’s winning time in the hurdles was 16.48 seconds. She had a leap of 15 feet to win the long jump. Her first-place distance in the triple-jump was 33 feet, three inches. She then joined the 4×100-meter relay team with Alyssa Fitzgerald, Lily Kirry, and Charlotte Falstad in a second- place finish, timing 55.15 seconds. She will begin the post-season ranked fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the100-meter hurdles.
Kyrstan Miller and Brenden Flanagan both won two events for Chewelah. Miller placed first in the shot put with a toss of 35 feet.
She also was the winner of the discus with a distance of 97 feet, 2 inches. She enters district competition as the state’s number two shot putter.
Flanagan had a season-best performance in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 11 inches. He was also the winner of the 300-meter low hurdles, crossing the finish line in 45.2 seconds. Flanagan currently ranks ninth in the state low hurdles rankings.
Conner Krouse won the shot put for the Cougar boys with a throw measured at 49 feet, 8 inches. He finished third in the discus with a distance of 113 feet, 1 inch. Krouse is now ranked second in the state shot put rankings.
Andrea Franks won the high jump, dropping over the bat set at 4 feet, 10 inches.
