Spokane School District announces 325 layoffs
Spokane Public Schools announced they would be laying off 325 people for the next school year after facing a budget deficit of $31 million. This stems from the McCleary Decision and changes in how public schools are funding in the state. One in 12 employees at the school district could lose their job. Click here for the full story.
Disney changes the name of original Star Wars movie
For the third time in its history, the original Star Wars movie is getting a name change. Originally released in 1977 as Star Wars. When the sequel “Empire Strikes Back” was released, it was also titled “Episode V” … meaning that Star Wars had to be retitled Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. Well, Disney has changed the name of the movie again to simply Star Wars: A New Hope. Disney aquired Lucasfilm back in 2012 and 21st Century Fox this year. Fox holds the distribution rights for the original trilogy of Star Wars. Click here for the full story.
Sudan army holding president, will put him on trial
After the ouster of Sudan president Omar al-Bashir from power, the Sudanese army announced that it is holding al-Bashir with the intent of putting him on trial. This comes after months of street protests against his rule. There has been a call for him to be handed over to an International Criminal Court, where he could face charges of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide for his actions in Darfus.
