Grubb, Howard and Justice moving on…
The Chewelah Cougar tennis team advanced two entries to the regional tournament at Mead High School in Spokane this Friday and Saturday, May 19-12.
Elizabeth Grubb placed fourth in girls’ singles, and the doubles team of Earl Howard and Keith Justice finished second, losing to a tough Riverside team in the district tournament final match.
“Elizabeth honestly was playing as good as any player in the bracket,” said Coach Ed Anegon, “only having a tough three-set loss to Eden Daniels of Deer Park. It was a match in which she had three match points in the second set, but she was unable convert a single one.
“Elizabeth has made giant strides in the past two weeks, becoming a more offensive player and she has really started to fill a mold of how I like to see singles players play—patient but attacking.”
