It’s August in Chewelah, and it’s time to race those zucchini down Chewelah Creek during the eighth running of the Chewelah Farmers Market Zucchini Regatta on Aug. 19.
You are invited to make your own sea-worthy craft at home, or make one at the Market Shipyard. The shipbuilding begins at noon, and all of the materials to build your zucchini boat will be available. There will be three age divisions and it’s free.
The first heat will take to the open water at 2 p.m., and be prepared to get wet!
Prizes are Chewelah Chamber Bucks.
Floating squash are not the only thing found at the market this week.
There will be just about every type of summer pro duce available: sweet corn, heirloom tomatoes, peaches, cucumbers, green beans, beets, carrots, garlic…well, you get the idea.
And don’t forget all of the other good things available, including bakery items, pastured chicken, grass fed beef and eggs, handcrafted soap and jewelry, essential oils, tie dye and too much more to list. Stop by and enjoy the music and fun at the market.
Washington State Extension will be conducting Pressure Canner checks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. too.
The Chewelah Farmers Market is open Fridays, rain or shine, from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. until October 21 in the Chewelah City Park.
