September 8, 1925 – August 18, 2017
Stan Salapka was born on September 8, 1925, in McCleary, Washington, to Paul and Verona Salapka. He spent his first 19 years there wreaking havoc with the “McCleary Hoodlums” until he turned his life over to the Lord in a tuberculosis sanitorium. At that time, he decided to go into ministry and left for Simpson Bible Institute in Seattle. It was there that he met the love of his life, Lois Cobb. They married in 1949 and started their ministry at the Proebstel Evangelical Free Church in Vancouver, Washington. His sense of humor and sincere love for people made him friends wherever he went. He loved helping people, and most of his ministry was spent serving hurting people and struggling churches. In spite of many health issues, he was able to accomplish much through his lifetime in ministry. Besides pastoring churches in Washington, California, and Alaska, he also worked with Youth for Christ in Vancouver, WA, and Black Lake Bible Camp in Olympia, WA. Even though he retired, he never stopped ministering to and helping people right up until his death.
Those waiting to greet him in heaven include both parents, brothers and sisters -Vera Kark, Anne Lackey, Paul Salapka, Mary Webb, John Salapka, Mike Salapka, and Joe Salapka – and many, many other loved relatives and friends. Those remaining behind to miss him include the love of his life, Lois Salapka, son Mike Salapka (Helen), daughter Connee Potter (Jeff), grandchildren Kent (Kirsten) Potter, Luke (Kate) Potter, Reece (Kathryn) Potter, Ben Salapka, and Megan Salapka. There are also seven great grandchildren who were fortunate to be born in time to get to know him.
In closing, as Stan would say:
“Howdy, Pilgrim. I’m happy to finally be back in all my original equipment – no hearing aids, glasses, or health problems. My life? It was good stuff, Maynard! I’m so proud you’d let me come and set a spell. I’m blessed to the left clavicle to have known you all.
I’m gonna take me home now.
Stanislaus Salapatika (aka Stan)”
Good night, Gov’ner
