Sandi Evelyn Nagy, a 15-year resident of Chewelah, passed away peacefully in Spokane, WA on April 1, 2019 with her loving family by her side. She was born on April 12, 1941 in San Jose, CA to parents Frederick and Evelyn (Johnson) Klawisch.
Sandi was born and raised in the San Jose area where she attended primary school. In high school, she was an active member of Job’s Daughters and graduated from Camden High School with the class of 1959. Sandi worked at Liberty Mutual Insurance Company where she met her first husband whom they would welcome 3 wonderful children.
The family would enjoy camping trips to the many nearby lakes and campgrounds. Though her first marriage did not last, Sandi met the love of her life, Donald Nagy, and they were wed on November 15, 1996. Sandi loved to take fishing trips with Don to Lake Amador, Bear Creek and many others. She enjoyed doing needlepoint, playing the piano, dancing, cooking, but most of all she loved to help other people. Sandi opened up her home to children by running a daycare and volunteering at the local schools. In California, Sandi took early childhood education classes and started volunteering in elementary schools. She later became the manager at Child Care Resources, assisting families in need.
In 2002, when Sandi retired, she bought a house in Chewelah, and the next year she moved up here where she had remained ever since. Sandi worked in the business office as ER registrar at St. Joeseph’s Hospital and volunteered in the gift shop and later volunteered for Dr. Kohlstedt. During her spare time she would enjoy watching a good romantic comedy, Dr. Phil and the Good Doctor. She loved spending time with family. She was a very passionate, gentle, loving, kind and giving person who also had a sweet little sassy side to her.
Sandi was preceded in death by her parents, Evelyn and Frederick and husband Don. She is survived by her three children, Debbie (Bruce) Engley, Phyllis (Jeff) King, Scott Ehlman, five Grandchildren, eleven Great Grandchildren and sister Mirriam Schaefer. Sandi is a beautiful soul, who was loved by everyone who had the honor of knowing her. She will be greatly missed.
