Akers United Drug is proud to announce a 2016 Row By Row Experience Winner – Mary Mahon of Deer Park, WA.
Row By Row is a contest that gives out a free pattern of a quilt row designed by the quilt shops all over the United States and Canada. The pattern follows a “theme” and this year it was Home Sweet Home. This is the second year that Akers United Drug has participated and we gave out 110 patterns. The rules state that you must get your pattern between June 21 and September 6 and the quilts must have eight rows.
Each row is 36½ x 9½ inches. Most shops sell kits or the person must make up the fabric choices. Row By Row has a site on Facebook by state.
The customers must bring in their finished quilts to a shop between June 21 and October 31.
Akers received Mary’s quilt on September 4. Mary had collected patterns from all over but finished it with rows from: Sew EZ Too of Spokane, Akers United Drug of Chewelah, In Stitches of Anacortes, Bear Paw of Coeur d’ Alene, Whale’s Tale Quilts of Ketchikan, AK, Mid South Sewing of Knoxville, TN , Sew Many Quilts, Bend, OR, and Pappy’s Quilting of Knoxville, TN. For finishing and turning it in first at a shop, Mary received 25 fat quarters and because she had our row in her quilt she received a $25 gift certificate, rotary blades, four quilting books and Row By Row pins.
Mary has lived in Deer Park for 6 years and comes to our area from Lewisville, TX where she worked for American Airlines. She has quilted for 50 years and started with her grandmother. It took her only one week to finish her quilt, which is on display at Akers. She has two children and four grandchildren. This was her first year doing the Row By Row Experience but she said it was fun going around collecting the patterns. Congratulations Mary! Stop by and see Mary’s quilt.
