By Chewelah Chief of Police Mark Burrows
Last weekend a number of citizens reported seeing a very large wolf in Chewelah. We’ve been told that this critter is probably a wolf hybrid and that’s why it is so comfortable in town. Undoubtedly the reason it is here is to see what’s on the menu. Last I checked there isn’t much that isn’t on the wolf-menu so lets all be realistic about what the options and responsibilities are should your family or pets be threatened by a large predator.
Last week the Chewelah P.D. handled over fifty calls, here’s your rundown. Officers checked two suspicious vehicles; a found wallet; an unwanted person; a bank alarm; and someone reported two stray dogs near the City Park. A threats complaint; civil papers were served; two harassment complaints; two collisions; a bunch of traffic stops; two protection order violations; a DV; three welfare checks; three incomplete 911 calls; and numerous people have reported seeing a suspicious person wandering around town either carrying or wearing a sleeping bag. A man left his keys in his car at the gas pumps and someone swiped it…….the car was recovered three days later on Huffman Rd. Officers responded to a disturbance after a man reportedly had plans to assault someone with a baseball bat. Officers assisted the Sheriff’s Office on a Domestic Violence and a suicide call involving a man with a gun. The Sheriff’s Office helped us several times and we are thankful for that! A citizen made an info report; a burglary report; a nighttime bicyclist was stopped and identified; and a citizen reported an unwanted person at his residence.
