Stroyan takes second at home invite…
Both Chewelah golf teams are holding onto third place in the current Northeast A League standings with one week of match play remaining in the season.
On Monday, April 24, Griffin Stroyan led the boys’ team to a third place finish at Deer Park. He completed the 18-hole course with a score of 78, ending up in a tie for third place on the leader board.
The boys shot a team score of 466. Bryce Harris shot 89, Owen Baldwin 97, Garrett Allen 101, Sam Burkley 101, and Jaron Baldwin 111.
“Bryce had a great front nine shooting 39,” said Coach Brian Harting. “He put together 5 pars and a birdie on his first six holes.”
Jennah Earl led the girl’s team at Deer Park with a score of 87, earning 57 points. She was followed by Avery Arnold’s 106, earning 36 points. Brooklyn Bender scored 29 points, Jayci Earl 12 points, Alison Brashler 9 points, and Lynn Dubs with one point.
“Jennah had 5 pars and birdied No. 8 to shoot 39 on the front nine,” reported Harting.
The girls are also in third place in the league standings with one match to go.
At the Chewelah Invitational on Friday, the boys tied for fourth place out of the 13 teams that invaded the local course. The Cougars shot a team total of 376.
Medical Lake was the team champion with a score of 360. The medalist was Grant McDonald from North Central, who shot 77.
Stroyan came in second in the individual scoring with an 81. Owen Baldwin shot 93, Harris 98, Jaron Baldwin 102, and Allen 105. The boy’s final league match was at Lakeside Tuesday. The Cougar girls host their Chewelah Invitational tournament here on Friday.
