The National Parks Service has confirmed that one individual drowned at Colville Flats on Lake Roosevelt on July 14. The name, gender and age of the victim is not being released at this time, as the incident is still under investigation, according to NPS Ranger Craig Brower.
Wakeboard wreck on Loon Lake
The Stevens County Sheriff’s Office reported a serious wakeboard accident on Loon Lake on July 12. A 19-year-old male wrecked while wakeboarding on the lake and was transported to Granite Point by boat, where he was flown to Sacred Heart by Life Flight helicopter.
Kettle Falls Wastewater Plant to go solar
The Kettle Falls Wastewater Treatment Plant recently received a Utilization of Commerce Energy Grant Award to install an array of 21 solar panels at their facility. The total cost of the project is $634,294, of which $422,863 will be paid for by the grant. The remainder will be paid from the city’s capital budget, according to city staff. The solar panels are estimated to save the plant over $12,000 a year in energy costs.
County Employee charged with Stealing Batteries from Landfill
An employee at the Stevens County Landfill was recently charged with stealing batteries from the facility and selling them to a nearby parts store. According to court records, Jerald Antoine had been taking batteries from the recycling bin at the landfill and selling them to the O’Reillys Auto Parts store in Colville. Employees at O’Reillys said Antoine had been coming in once a month with batteries and sold them to the store for 10 dollars each. Antoine is being charged with one count of first degree trafficking in stolen property and third degree theft.
