According to a letter from Thomas W. Reser, IEFOA Sportsmanship Committee Chairperson, Mary Walker High School’s Varsity football team (Chargers) was selected by the Inland Empire Football Officials Association as a weekly winner of their Sportsmanship Award. The award is based on the game this team played on Oct. 19 against Davenport High School.
According to officials who nominated the team, everyone associated with the team was positive, and exhibited excellent sportsmanship throughout the game. Shane O’Malley (#9) and Chase Fitzgerald (#20) were singled out by the officials as being exceptionally positive through a tough fought game.
The IEFOA has been awarding youth and high school football programs since 2005 for sportsmanship displayed on the field by players, coaches, trainers and other team personnel, and greatly appreciates the effort put into instilling the value of sportsmanship.
The Varsity team (Chargers) will be considered for the IEFOA’s yearly award at the end of the season.
