The operator of a 1995 Harley Davidson could be charged with vehicular assault and driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol after striking a deer on Sunday evening.
According to the Washington State Patrol, Dean L. Rice, 58, of Addy was operating his yellow Harley XL883 northbound on SR 231 approximately seven miles north of Springdale on Sunday at about 8 p.m. when he struck a deer in the roadway.
Although Rice was injured, he was not transported from the scene. His passenger, Athena L. Mace, 36, of Addy was thrown from the motorcycle and injured. She was airlifted to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane.
Both riders were wearing approved helmets.
