After meeting with Donald Trump last week at his New Jersey golf club, Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers is being quiet about a possible cabinet appointment by the President-elect, the Spokesman-Review reports.
McMorris Rodgers, originally from Kettle Falls, is the fourth-ranking House Republican and has been speculated as a possible member of Trump’s cabinet. Rodgers has even prompted Spokane County Auditor Vicky Dalton to explore options if the congresswoman accepts a cabinet spot, the Spokesman said.
The congresswoman has avoided questions concerning the possibility of a cabinet spot in interviews with local Spokane media. She was the only female visitor at Trump’s golf course last week and she did endorse Trump during the campaign.
If McMorris Rodgers was named to the cabinet, an election would be need to be held to fill her vacant seat in Congress. The U.S. Constitution requires a ballot on not an appointment for a seat in Congress.
