Marie Wissink
1922-2016
Marie Wissink went to be with the Lord peacefully on May 3, 2016. She was born in Cold Springs, Minnesota on March 7, 1922 to Mathias Hansen and Katherine (Menden) Hansen. Since her mother passed shortly after her birth and her father moved to Nez Perce, Idaho, Marie was raised in Minnesota by her paternal Grandmother and Grandfather, William and Magdalena Hansen, who surrounded her with love.
She moved to Washington State on July 9, 1940 after she graduated high school because she was anxious to meet her step brothers and sisters and her step mother. She met Bob (Sylvester) Wissink when coming to Chewelah and they were married on May 29, 1945 after he returned from for years in the Army in WWII and lived in Chewelah, Washington until 1989 when Bob passed away.
Mom continued to live in Chewelah until 2008. Marie enjoyed singing with the choir in Chewelah, dancing, playing cards, her faith and all her friends and family. As a young girl, she had decided to have six children. After she married she accomplished that and enjoyed her children and grandchildren throughout her life.
All her friends also held a very special place in her heart. Marie’s family would like to give a heart-felt thank you to Carol and her staff at Candlelight Homes Adult Family Home for the loving and dedicated care you all provided to Mom over the last few years. And a big thank you to Hospice for helping her be comfortable throughout.
Within the past year her sister-in-law Margaret Fischer and brothers-in-law Jack Sobotta, Jim Owens and Tom Hendrix passed.
Marie is survived by her children JoAnn (Steve) Baker, Mary Kay (Mike) Bryan, Tom (Carolyn) Wissink, Bill (Ann) Wissink, Sylvia (Brad) Loosveldt, Nick Wissink and 13 grandchildren and 15 great- grandchildren.
She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her as a giving, faith filled, and loving woman.
A visitation will be held at 6 p.m. followed by the Rosary at 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 12 at Hennessey Funeral Home, 2203 N Division, Spokane, WA.
