Margaret Baker 1932-2016
Margaret Louise Baker, a longtime resident of Colville, WA passed away on Aug. 24, 2016 in Kennewick, WA surrounded by her family. Margaret was born on Dec. 28, 1932 in Chewelah, WA the daughter of Harold and Mildred (Golland) Buell.
She began school at the West Side School in Addy, WA where she attended through the fifth grade. Margaret’s family then moved to Prosser, WA where she continued her education through the 10th grade. She then attended the Reardan High School where she completed the eleventh grade during the standard school year and her twelfth grade during summer school in Spokane. Margaret met Gordon “Ting” Baker while working for her aunt at the Washington Water Power cookhouse at Long Lake. On December 17, 1950 they exchanged wedding vows at the cookhouse. She and Gordon then resided at the Ford Trout Hatchery where they began a family with the birth of their two sons, Harold and Walter. In 1955 they moved to the Pend Oreille Hatchery in Usk, WA. Margaret worked in the lunch room at the Cusick schools for three years while residing in Usk.
In 1967, they moved to Colville where they resided at the Colville Hatchery until Gordon’s retirement in 1987. During Gordon’s employment in Colville, Margaret worked at Safeway for nearly 10 years. Margaret and Gordon remained in Colville where they enjoyed their retirement years together. Gordon passed away in 2007 and Margaret was able to remain in her home. In 2013 she moved to Kennewick to ease the burden of living alone and be nearer to her family.
Margaret spent many hours caring for her garden. She created beautiful crafts through her knitting, ceramics, needlepoint and other needlework.
Margaret enjoyed sharing time with her family. She especially enjoyed her opportunity to provide day care to her grandchildren and watch over them as they grew into young adults. She left little to question with her organizational skills and nurturing guidance. Her presence will be dearly missed.
Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon, in 2007 and her brother, Glenn Buell.
She is survived by her two sons, Harold Baker and wife, Cheri, Kennewick, WA, Walter Baker, Chewelah, WA; grandchildren, Cory Baker, Craig Baker, Daryl Baker, Amanda Murray, Joe Baker; great grandchildren, Makayla Baker, Alyssa Baker, Cameron Baker, Levi Baker, Colin Murray, Aiden Murray, Dylan Murray, Riley Baker and Parker Baker; brothers, Larry Buell, Jerry Buell and his wife, Debbie; sister, Hazel Miller, Della Minchew and her husband, John.
The funeral service for Mrs. Margaret L. Baker will begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016 at the Colville Community Church. Cremation will follow the service will a committal at the Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville. Pastor Dave McCue will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be given to either the American Diabetes Association, American Heart Association or the Colville Community Church. Danekas Funeral Chapel is entrusted with the arrangements.
