Light up the Park gets ready to glow

“Pumpkin patches” a new feature this year
Save the date: October 29, 2016. Light Up the Park will provide the glow, please bring the pumpkins, lots of them.

Chewelah Arts Guild’s 2015 attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the longest line of carved, lighted pumpkins came just 65 pumpkins shy of the World Record set a week later in Eniwa, Japan with 2015 jack o’ lanterns.

The Chewelah Arts Guild has decided not to pursue the Guinness World Record this year, rather set our own record for the most fun in 2016.

Some of the Light Up the Park fun will include a Pumpkin Flotilla and “pumpkin patches” (contest areas). For example, costume, logo carving, tiered carvings, celebrity carvings, a group created carving/display, diorama pumpkins, a scarecrow garden and pumpkins carved anyway you choose.

Night at the Museum will again provide an eerie, historical perspective. An Orange Art display, games and contests, entertainment, food booths, and a participatory “grand finale” are some of the events planned for this spectacle. Bring your phone or camera to record your own film, for “Afterglow,” Light Up the Park’s film festival the week following this event.

Committed to “Lighting Up the Park” with thousands of jack o’ lanterns, the October 29 event will bring “big city events” that rival the best festivals in the northeastern United States to this small community.

Save the date, bring pumpkins, and help us create a glowing event with friends and neighbors. Check out #LightUptheParkChewelah on Facebook for continued updates.
