Here are letters to the editor for Nov. 15, 2018…
Democracy a recipe for mob rule
It is the day of the vote, so this letter will not have a bearing on who is elected but, there is another coming up. I hope to educate voters on what is really at stake by voting for a democracy instead of a republic form of government.
The word democracy comes from two Greek words demos (“people”) and Kratos (“rule, strength, might”)-is a form of government in which the people themselves directly make every important decision. Every piece of legislation is put to a vote of the people.
A republic, on the other hand, is profoundly different. In a republic, it is a representatives of the people not the people themselves, who make every important decision. Every piece of legislation is designed to represent the will of the elected representatives of the people.
Our Constitution reads (in Article, IV Section IV) The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government. There is a dire reason for this, for they knew that a democracy is a recipe for mob rule.
The Founders were all too aware of how easily the people can be whipped by misinformation, demagoguery, and hype into a irrational fervor and be driven in directions that would destroy the public peace if they were allowed to dictate public policy. Antifa, Black Lives Matter, violent student protests against conservative speakers, and noisy agitators disrupting hearings for Supreme Court posts are just some of the examples that come to mind. All those are examples of democracy in action.
But the Founders had a betters way. Allow the people the opportunity to choose wise, experienced, and mature leaders who would then be directed to deliberate in calm environments with well established rules in place to ensure that every view is heard and debated before votes are taken.
Franklin was well aware that a republic can be a fragile thing if placed in the wrong hands. This is because the inevitable pull of a fallen society is in the direction of democracy, disorder, and mob rule.
Every elected representative must take an oath of office to uphold the Constitution of the United States. That said, every democrat is not telling the truth for they want a democracy not a Republican form of government. That is why we have a house divided and God said a house divided will not stand.
A Republican government stands for Nationalism whereas a democratic government stands for globalism. Do we as a free nation want the U.N to be our ruling body? If so keep voting democrat.
