Reinvigorate the school board
Last Wednesday, the Chewelah School Board took a vote in favor of reinvigorating the representative governance of our local schools. I applaud them! They opted to put a measure on the November 2016 ballot that reorganizes the district, thus giving more opportunities to more citizens—more often—to run for school board.
They did not take this decision lightly. The Board tried for more than a year to fill the vacancy in the Director District 4 position, but unfortunately, no one residing in the proper location came forward. I witnessed them discuss a solution at every board meeting since January. After a thorough effort to fill this position under the existing geographic restrictions, they recognized the need for a change. The answer? Redefining the Board as elected representatives living in three geographically defined director districts, and two additional elected “at–large” representatives who may live anywhere within the boundaries of the school district.
Candidate participation in narrowly geographically defined races has dropped in our community. Comparing the period of 1999-2007 to the period of 2008 to present, there has been a 34 percent drop in the number of individuals running for public office locally. By reorganizing the Chewelah School Board as proposed, citizens with the “desire to serve” will find the “opportunity to serve” better aligned in time. In November, join me in voting “Yes” to reorganize and reinvigorate the School District. Until then, join the conversation on Facebook at “Supporting Chewelah School Board Reorg.”
Make sure you get out and vote
America, Let’s Vote!
Recently, I’ve been talking to people about our current Presidential election. I’ve heard statements such as: “In all good conscience I can’t vote for Donald Trump and I’m surely not voting for Hillary, so I guess I won’t vote.”
Donald Trump was not my first choice either, but now that he is the nominee for the Republicans I am going to vote for him. Mr. Trump has stated that he does and will support the Republican Party Platform and will appoint conservative Federal Judges and Supreme Court Justices.
That’s my vote: God, America, moral values, securing the future for our children and grandchildren. For the responsible citizen, to not vote is not a choice and to vote for a third party candidate simply aids the opposition. We need to exercise our privilege and responsibility in voting and not give America away by default.

Obama’s Dangerous Rhetoric
He did it in Ferguson, Missouri and now he is doing the same thing concerning the recent police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota. Before law enforcement even had enough time to begin the investigation, Obama has already concluded the police are in the wrong and has voiced that opinion, as though it is fact, on national TV. His irresponsible discourse is possibly the one most important factor in the rising crime rates and anti-police sentiment around the country.
The turmoil which will follow will result in more death and destruction than a thousand Al Capones and a thousand Billy the Kids armed with assault rifles (high capacity magazines) in full auto can achieve. Then what follows? Martial Law? A dictatorship?
Remember Obama’s campaign promise? To fundamentally change this country. He made that promise at the same time he ridiculed those who, “stick to their guns and bible.”
