George drives in two runs, Cougars rally late against Mt. Spokane…
Chewelah was able to find their bats late and down Mt. Spokane 5-4 in Legion AA baseball on Friday night to improve to 2-0 on the summer season. Justin Rollis pitching 6 1/3 innings, struck out three and scattered five Mt. Spokane hits.
Lucas Kubik went 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot, while Jake George drove in two runs in the victory. Rollis also helped his own cause with two hits.
The 49ers got on the board first with Brad Larson stealing home. Chewelah held that lead for three innings until Mt. Spokane scored on a wild pitch and a bunt single with runners on third in both situations in the top of the fifth.
Chewelah answered right back in the bottom of the fifth. Cole Davis drove in a run on an error as the outfielder couldn’t handle the fly ball, while Jake George chopped the ball into the outfield to drive in three runs on a triple.
In the top of the seventh, Mt. Spokane refused to swing at any pitch and was able to score by getting one run walked in and also grabbing a run on a wild pitch. Jake Jeanneret recorded the final out to pick up the save for the 49ers.
Chewelah finished with six hits as a team while Mt. Spokane committed four errors as a team.
