(STAFF REPORTS/Chewelah Independent)
The Chewelah Kiwanis Operation Santa collection is now under way with Christmas creeping up only 10 weeks left. The Kiwanis’ goal is to raise enough money each year to be able to help every Chewelah family in need this Christmas season. With help from our community, the Kiwanis can help around 300 children each year have a brighter Christmas.
If you would like to make a monetary donation, there is an envelope at the counter of the Chewelah Independent. All checks should be made payable to Kiwanis Operation Santa.
You can also call Holly Ayers at 509-680-6945 and she can meet with you to pick up your donation. There is also two locations: Washington Federal Bank and The Chewelah Independent where there will be a Christmas display Santa and donation box where you may give a gift of new, unopened toys and new warm winter clothing like boots, coats, gloves and hats.
If you would like to mail in a donation, you may send mail it to:

PO Box 1051
Chewelah, WA 99109
Kiwanis is now accepting donations until Dec. 23 and is also holding a drawing on Dec. 7 during the Chewelah City Sidewalk Sale. The winner of the drawing will receive a full decorated Christmas Tree and multiple gift cards to various businesses and restaurants totalling over $500 in value.
The winner does not have to be present. To enter the drawing, you must purchase tickets from Oct. 20-Dec. 7 at Akers United Drug, Valley Drug Co and Chewelah’s Washington Federal Bank. Tickets are $5, and the money will go towards the Chewelah Kiwanis Operation Santa.
