Cougars have four placers at Pasco Invite…
Most young runners at the Pasco Invite are so astonished that they tend to balk before the quality of competition that assembles there.
Chewelah freshman Lily Kirry is not one who flinches in the face of blue ribbon runners. On Saturday, she finished fifth in the 300-meter hurdles, setting a new Jenkins High School record in the process. Her time in the finals was 46.12 seconds, erasing the former Chewelah mark of 46.29 seconds held by Rebecca Johnstone since 2009.
Kirry’s previous best time in the hurdles was 48.35 seconds. Thus, she shaved over two seconds off her previous best time. Kirry also set a personal-best time in the 200-meter run with a time of 26.53 seconds, placing fifteenth out of 42 runners entered in this event. Her prior best time was 26.77 seconds.
Conner Krausz placed eleventh in the shot put with a toss of 47 feet, four inches. Maggie Cobb was ninth in the triple-jump with a distance of 35 feet, three inches, eleventh in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, and 16th in the 100-meter high hurdles with a time of 16.5 seconds. Kyrstan Miller finished 28th in the shot put with a throw of 32 feet, one inch.
