Mr. John Slackter from Mt. Carmel PA, passed away on 4 September, 2016 at 93 years old while being cared for by his daughter’s family in Chewelah, WA.
John previously resided in the Villages of Lady Lake, FL. where he lived since 1993. John was a decorated WWII infantry soldier, endured the great depression and had defeated colon cancer. He lived as a very faithful Catholic and family man, with a generous kind heart. After the war he worked 29 years as a fireman for Trenton, NJ.
He remained married for 48 years until his wife Jean died in December 1998. An active sportsman John enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, playing cards and Rummikub but playing pool was his passion.
His family plans to respect his wish to be cremated and buried alongside his wife in the US National Cemetery of Bushnell, FL. A military honors ceremony is tentatively planned for 13 October. (contact cemetery for current details).
John is survived by his four children, sons John Jr. and Joseph Slackter of New Jersey, and Thomas Slackter of the Villages of Florida; his daughter Mari Anne Moyer of Chewelah, WA; along with 9 grandchildren. Arrangements have been entrusted to Catholic Funeral and Cemetery Services of Spokane, WA.
