Governor Chris Gregoire, Governor Mike Lowry, Washington State Superintendent of Public Instruction Randy Dorn and the College Success Foundation gathered Sept. 24, 2012 for the 12th Annual Governors’ Cup Golf Tournament at TPC Snoqualmie Ridge.
The highlight of the event unfolded when CSF Co-Founder and Vice Chair Ann Ramsay-Jenkins announced the new Gregoire Scholar Award, named in honor of the governor as a tribute to her enduring commitment to education. The award will be given annually to a Governors’ Scholar who plans to pursue an advanced degree in education or law. Governors’ Scholar Sasha Davison, a Washington State University student and featured speaker at the event, was named the award’s first recipient. Davison is a 2010 Jenkins High School graduate.
Proceeds from the Governors’ Cup – an annual golf tournament – provide funding for approximately 40 new scholars each year. The Governors’ Scholarship for Foster Youth helps young men and women who are currently in an open dependency court order in Washington State, or an open dependency tribal court order, continue their education and earn a college degree.
