What an experience for an old codger of 87. Recently I had the privilege of officiating at a wedding here in Chewelah. For this, I received my fee of 39 cents. Wow! A couple more of these I’ll be able to retire before I’m placed in a higher tax bracket.
During the wedding, I mentioned the fact that marriage was instituted by God and is a union between a man and a woman. I realize there are some who disagree with this and I respect their right to do so. That will be between them and the Lord.
We all know same sex marriage is now legal in our state. As I look ahead, I can see some problems arising if I am asked to perform a same sex marriage. Thinking about this possibility, I am preparing a Biblical dissertation on the issue that I can present to the couple as I graciously turn them down. Now if this happens, I could lose BOTH dollars I have in a law suit, or I could be awarded an all expense paid vacation in the county jail. (This can’t happen in the U.S? It already has.) While there, I’ll be able to share how the Lord has given me peace in troubled times.
All pastors will be facing this dilemma. Is this Freedom of Religion?
I don’t have to tell you, we are living in some difficult and uncertain times in this old mixed up world – but, you know what? We can have the assurance that God is still on the throne, so – “Hangeth in there Pilgrim.”
