IN MEMORY: Richard Greg Scott

Richard Greg Scott
October 20, 1944-June 23, 2020

Richard Greg Scott, age 75, a longtime resident of Chewelah, WA passed away on June 23, 2020 in Chewelah due to a sudden cardiac event. Greg was born on October 20, 1944 in Caldwell, ID, the son of Arthur Dale and Louise A. (Bates) Scott.

He began grade school in St. John, WA and moved with his family at the age of eight to Chewelah. There he completed school and graduated from Jenkins High School in 1962. Greg then attended one year at Seattle Pacific University before transferring to Washington State University. Greg enlisted into the U.S. Army and served three years stateside during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged and returned to Pullman to finish his bachelor’s degree in Agriculture. On September 7, 1968, Greg married Joan E. Schneiter in Chewelah. Together they resided in Pullman until returning to Chewelah. Greg worked for a time with Richmond Logging before leasing farm property and beginning his farming career. In the mid 1980’s they moved to the family farm where he continued working the land. Greg retired at the age of 67 and began retirement.

Greg and Joan enjoyed their retirement and took several trips across the U.S. in their RV camper visiting their children and taking in the sights along the way. Whenever possible they backpacked and hiked into the beauty of the surrounding woods and mountains. Greg walked everyday, no matter rain or shine, to maintain his health and physical abilities. Once retired, Greg turned his farming skills into the planting, weeding and harvesting of his garden. He never tired of new places, undiscovered roads and was a map fanatic. He approached life through his love of God, strong work ethic and desire to be a loving husband and good father and grandfather. His ethics, honesty, loyalty and trustworthiness are qualities he led by and created a desire in those he knew to follow.

Greg is preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan Scott, at the home; daughters, Stephanie Scott of Chewelah, WA, Linsey Grainger (Joe) of Huntingtown, MD, Andrew “Ace” Scott of Hayes, VA; Granddaughter, Kamayah Grainger of Huntingtown, MD; brother, Wilbur Scott (Connie) of Spokane Valley, WA; numerous nieces and nephews.
